CBC — Red Cell Mass

Hematocrit

Hematocrit is the percentage of blood volume occupied by red blood cells.

Reference range

Adult male reference: ~38.8–50%. Functional optimization context only — not a diagnostic assertion. Range varies by lab, age, and sex.

Why it matters

Hematocrit is the safety marker on any testosterone protocol. Testosterone stimulates erythropoiesis; persistently elevated hematocrit increases blood viscosity and warrants protocol adjustment, hydration review, and — when needed — therapeutic phlebotomy. REVRCEL members on hormone protocols have hematocrit re-read every quarter.

How REVRCEL clinicians read it

The protocol-safety marker on TRT. Quarterly re-read; act on persistent elevation.

Common questions

Why does TRT raise hematocrit?

Testosterone stimulates red blood cell production (erythropoiesis). It is an expected effect that needs monitoring, not necessarily a reason to stop.
