Ferritin

Ferritin reflects total body iron stores and is also an acute-phase reactant.

Reference range

Optimization target: 50–150 ng/mL (sex-dependent). Functional optimization context only — not a diagnostic assertion. Range varies by lab, age, and sex.

Why it matters

Low ferritin is a frequent driver of fatigue, hair loss, and exercise intolerance — and is often missed on standard panels. High ferritin can reflect either iron overload or systemic inflammation, which is why it is read against hs-CRP. Read against hs-CRP. High ferritin in the presence of high hs-CRP is more likely an inflammation signal than iron overload.
