Hormone — Estrogen

Estradiol (E2)

Estradiol is the dominant circulating estrogen, present in both men and women.

Reference range

Adult male sensitive E2: ~10–40 pg/mL. Functional optimization context only — not a diagnostic assertion. Range varies by lab, age, and sex.

Why it matters

In male hormone optimization, estradiol is essential for libido, joint comfort, bone density, and lipid health — but excess (typically from aromatization of testosterone) can drive water retention, mood changes, and gynecomastia. Suppressing estradiol too aggressively is a common error and is associated with joint symptoms and lipid worsening. REVRCEL clinicians use the sensitive (LC/MS-MS) assay rather than the standard immunoassay because the standard assay is unreliable in men.

How REVRCEL clinicians read it

Always order the sensitive assay in male members. Treat the symptom + lab pattern, not the number alone.

Common questions

Is high estradiol bad for men?

Not always. Estradiol is essential for joint, bone, and cardiovascular health in men. Excess relative to testosterone can cause symptoms; suppression is rarely the right first move.

Why does REVRCEL use the sensitive estradiol assay?

The standard immunoassay is unreliable in men. The LC/MS-MS sensitive assay is the standard of care.
